Framingham, MA – June 22, 2006 – Gray skies and rain didn’t keep area children and their parents from enjoying MetroWest Medical Center’s Annual Health and Safety Fair on Saturday, June 10, 2006.
Hosted by Metrowest Medical Center, the fair included more than 20 exhibits representing local organizations involved in promoting child health and safety. The festivities offered everything from face painting and pony rides to free giveaways and an assortment of raffle prizes, including two shiny new bikes.
Youngsters and their parents visited with doctors and nurses and talked with representatives from local police and fire departments who brought along some interesting equipment and vehicles to show off. Children also learned all about bike safety and were given FREE bike helmets expertly fitted to each child’s head by the Framingham Police Department.
“Cool!” shouted a smiling young boy as he modeled his new bike helmet and waited to see if his name would be called in the prize raffle for a new bike. “I’m glad we came.”
A popular highlight with many attendees, the Child Identification Program (CHIP) – provided by the Free Masons of Massachusetts – drew constant attention and a steady line. CHIP program participants received important tools to help keep children safe, including fingerprinting and videos.
“Even heavy rain couldn’t put a damper on our fun,” said Beth Donnelly, Director of Community Relations and coordinator of the event. “We all look forward to the fair each year… children, parents, and fair staff alike. It’s a wonderful way for families to have fun together and learn something along the way. This year’s event was a great success.”
