Podiatry Teaching Program

Foot and Ankle Teaching Program
2009/2010

Dear Students:

MetroWest Medical Center is a community teaching hospital in the western suburbs of Greater Boston. The Podiatric teaching program is one of three distinct programs at the medical center, including Internal Medicine and Transitional Year. The Podiatric Training Program has been in existence for 14 years and has trained an equal number of residents.

Our residents have all moved into private practice and we have 100% pass rate on surgical boards. Our program is now affiliated with San Filipe Hospital, Tegucigulpa, Honduras. This is part of the Baja Project for Crippled Children. The Foot and Ankle Team traveled to Tegucigulpa, Honduras and assisted in over 25 corrective surgeries for Talipes Equino Varus.

The program is academically enriching as spiritually rewarding. This privilege has only been shared by a select few in the Podiatric community.

The Podiatric Residency Program is accredited PM&S-36. The residents keep their logs and cases in "Residency Resource" which is a component of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. The residents sit for the in-training exam, and participate in PRĒSENT® and the annual complications seminar with other New England training programs.

Another positive aspect of this program is the philosophy that our residents are treated with respect and professionalism. From the first day of orientation, the residents are treated as mature, capable, podiatric residents. The expectations are that responsibilities and duties will be completed in a timely fashion as outlined.

I am assured that the residents who successfully complete this program will be competent practitioners who will be confident with all aspects of Podiatric Inpatient and Outpatient care.
