Ultrasound
An ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to create still or video images of soft tissue areas of the body. To capture these images, first an Ultrasound gel is applied to the skin over the area to be viewed. A hand-held instrument called a “transducer” is then glided slowly across your skin as an image appears on the ultrasound monitor. Ultrasound procedures are relatively painless and quick.
Preparing for an Ultrasound
Unless you are otherwise instructed, there is no special preparation required before your ultrasound. However, if your abdomen or pelvic regions are to be examined, you may be asked not to eat prior to the exam, and/or to report with a full bladder.
