Occupational Therapy

Our dynamic staff of occupational therapists treat a diverse patient population in a variety of settings including acute care, inpatient rehab, and outpatient. We assist patients with many conditions including an array of post surgical, orthopedic, and neurological impairments. Our OTs work one-on-one with our patients in mastering everyday skills in order to achieve independence in their functional activities, as well as improving perception, cognition, and upper extremity function. We create a customized treatment plan to achieve optimal range of motion, strength, and coordination to function at home, work, and recreationally.
Treatment may include:
- Activities of Daily Living
- Energy conservation and work simplification
- Functional mobility
- Adaptations for home safety
- Equipment recommendations
- Comprehensive home exercise program
Hand Therapy
At MWMC, we have Certified Hand Therapists at each site. A CHT specializes in rehabilitating patients with problems affecting the hands and upper extremity. This degree of specialized knowledge is achieved through advanced study and allows the therapist to work with patients to return to a productive lifestyle. Unique problems are identified and effectively treated and rehabilitated through:
- Management of open or sutured wounds to aid healing
- Control of hypertrophic (raised/swollen) or hypersensitive scars
- Management of acute or chronic pain
- Design and implement exercise programs to increase motion, dexterity, and strength
- Custom-made splints for immobilization, mobilization, and/or protection
- Adaptations for daily activities at home or work
- Conditioning prior to returning to work/school/sports after injury
- Sensory re-education after nerve injury
