MetroWest Medical Center Receives American College of Radiology (ACR) Accreditation

Apr 12, 2023

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – MetroWest Medical Center secures American College of Radiology (ACR) Accreditation renewals for an additional three years.

The imaging modalities that received updated ACR accreditation include:

  • Breast/cyst ultrasounds
  • Non-breast ultrasounds

The American College of Radiology (ACR) was founded in 1924 with the core purpose of serving patients and society by empowering members to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care. The College is a membership organization representing diagnostic radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists and medical physicists. The ACR operates with the core values of leadership, integrity, quality and innovation. A fundamental component of the ACR’s mission is the Accreditation program.

ACR Accreditation is a self-assessment and peer review process focused on diagnostic image quality, staff qualifications, policies, protocols, equipment, and therapeutic treatment. It allows facilities to set and surpass industry-accepted quality standards for patient care and includes recommendations for improvement. ACR Accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging. Since 1987, the ACR has accredited more than 38,000 facilities in 9 imaging modalities including: Breast Ultrasound, Computed Tomography (CT), Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Radiation Oncology, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy and Ultrasound.
