High-tech. Personal touch.

The procedures we perform require sophisticated skill and state-of-the-art technology. In addition to our surgical specialties, we offer a number of special programs:

  • Through our autotransfusion program patients can donate their own blood for use during their surgical procedure.

  • Our Perioperative Music Therapy Program uses music to reduce stress, control anxiety and pain, and enhance the healing process. Patients interested in this program can bring tapes or CDs and a headset, then listen to music during and after their procedure.

  • MetroWest Medical Center's LAR (Local Ambulatory Room) and day surgery programs allow patients to have minor surgical procedures performed, then return home the same day.

  • Through our pain management program, patients work with nurses and doctors before and after their procedure to prevent or relieve pain.

Several days prior to your elective surgical procedure at MetroWest Medical Center, you will have an appointment with our Pre-Admission Testing Department.Based on your type of procedure and your health history this appointment may be a visit with us or a telephone interview.

To begin your appointment, you will register with our Registration Representative and receive information about your rights as a patient. Next, you will be assessed by a Registered Nurse and review educational and pre-operative care information relevant to your procedure.  The RN will also provide post-operative discharge instructions to aid in your recovery plan.

During your visit, you may also have an opportunity to meet with a representative from our Department of Anesthesiology.  Additional testing, if required, will be ordered at that time and be completed during your PAT appointment to safely prepare you for your procedure.  These tests may include procedures such as blood tests, electrocardiogram (EKG) or X-Rays.

If you complete your Pre-Admission Testing appointment by telephone, let us know if you would like to speak with a representative from our Department of Anesthesiology to answer any questions you may have.  We will be happy to arrange that for you.  Be assured that each patient receives a complete pre-operative evaluation by a physician from the Department of Anesthesia on the day of procedure.

Please set aside two hours for your Pre-Admission Testing visit.  A telephone interview appointment takes approximately 30 minutes.
