Healthgrades Names MetroWest Medical Center as one of Top 2% of Hospitals in Nation

Mar 5, 2018

Framingham and Natick, Mass. (March 5, 2018) – MetroWest Medical Center achieves the Healthgrades 2018 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™. The distinction makes MetroWest Medical Center one of the top 2% of more than 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, a leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

“This is a very significant achievement for MetroWest Medical Center and is a testament to the commitment of our employees and physicians to providing high-quality quality care,” said Chief Executive Officer, Jeffrey Liebman. “When considering where to go for healthcare, our community can rest assured that our hospital is offering award-winning care close to home, negating the need to travel into Boston.”

From 2014 through 2016, patients treated in hospitals achieving Healthgrades America's 100 Best Hospitals Award™ had, on average, 22.3% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.* During this same period, if all other hospitals, as a group, performed at the level of America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients across these 19 procedures and conditions, 162,284 lives could potentially have been saved.* For example, patients treated at a hospital that has achieved the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ had, on average, a 9.1% lower risk of dying during their hospital stay for Heart Failure than if treated at a hospital that did not receive the award.*

“Our analysis reveals variation in outcomes for patients, so it’s important for consumers to carefully research and select a hospital,” said Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend the recipients of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospital Award™ for delivering exceptional clinical outcomes that help them stand out from their peers.”

The 100 recipients of the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2018 study period (2014-2016), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures — as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).
