Emergency Care at MetroWest Medical Center
When you need emergency medical care, you can trust MetroWest Medical Center's Framingham Union Hospital in Framingham, MA. Our emergency department is staffed by experienced physicians and skilled nurses who provide high-quality care for a wide range of medical needs, including emergencies, heart attacks and stroke.
Our Framingham Union Hospital Emergency Department combines advanced technology with highly trained physicians, nurses and staff to provide expert care for a wide range of medical emergencies.
Each year, the Emergency Department at MetroWest Medical Center treats approximately 40,000 patients. Emergency care services include:
- 33 treatment rooms
- 6 urgent care chairs
- Comprehensive emergency services 24-hours a day, 7 days per week
- Experienced, Board-certified emergency doctors and nurses
- The only Cardiac Catheterization Lab between Worcester & Boston

Low Wait Times
Accidents and illness can happen fast, but at the MetroWest Medical Center Emergency Department at Framingham Union Hospital, you’ll find fast emergency care. We work to keep our wait times low and address your medical crisis as soon as possible.
Please remember, we provide care to the most critical cases first. Patients are evaluated on arrival by a registered nurse and are then seen by an emergency medical provider based on severity. If an ambulance arrives with a critical patient or there is an emergency situation, the wait time for other patients may be affected, and wait times are always subject to change.

Request Your File of Life; It Just Could Save Your Life!
MetroWest Medical Center is pleased to announce participation in the File of Life program. During a medical emergency, there is often a lot of confusion, panic, and urgency. The File of Life puts vital information in the hands of emergency first responders and allows them to begin treatment based upon the patient's medical history and prescription information.
The File of Life is a red, magnetic packet that contains important medical information about the individual as well as list contact information for their doctor, family members, insurance information and any other special circumstances that rescue personnel should know. It is designed to help the local fire department, paramedics, and emergency rooms obtain the necessary medical history and emergency contact information in an emergency. It is kept in plain sight, usually on a refrigerator. The form should be reviewed and updated as needed every six months.
