Steven Yood, MD

Yood performs Minimally Invasive and General Abdominal Surgery for MetroWest Physician Services. His methodology involves communicating with his patients through each step of the process prior to and following surgery. "I am very honest and open with my patients. Each patient is different, and therefore each interaction must be tailored to that person." Dr. Yood dedicates himself to closely following patients from consultation to recovery. "I personally view every x-ray and lab test that I order and notify the patient of the results," he said. "I also phone each patient on the evening prior to surgery to answer any questions and alleviate concerns, and I follow-up with the patient's primary-care physician or referring specialist to ensure that their recovery process is swift and free of complications." He is the only surgeon in Eastern Massachusetts who is able to implant gastric stimulators, which send mild electrical impulses to the lower stomach, alleviating symptoms of nausea and vomiting in patients with severe gastroparesis. Dr. Yood formerly served as Medical Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Attending Surgeon at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton. Prior to that, he worked at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut since 1999, most recently as Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery. He earned his MD from Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Yood also holds an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan. His surgical residency was completed at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, followed by a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Dr. Yood is a published author of numerous articles and book chapters in the field of Minimally Invasive Surgery and is a speaker for local, national and international meetings of medical groups and surgeons.
