What Is an EndoFLIP Procedure?

EndoFLIP (Functional Lumen Imaging Probe) is an advanced diagnostic tool that helps gastroenterologists assess esophageal function. Using a small balloon attached to a thin catheter, EndoFLIP measures the size, shape and movement of the esophagus, as well as how it responds to pressure.

The procedure is typically performed during an upper endoscopy while the patient is under anesthesia. The information gathered can help identify conditions that affect swallowing and digestion, including:

  • Achalasia
  • Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE)
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

EndoFLIP may also be used to assess esophageal function before or after certain treatments or surgeries.
