Minimizing the Effects of Cancer Treatment

When you’re facing cancer, it can affect every aspect of your life.

At MetroWest Cancer Center Living Well Rehabilitation Program, we provide state-of-the-art rehabilitation services in order to maintain or improve our patients’ quality of life throughout any stage of cancer treatment or recovery.

Our rehabilitation department provides individualized evaluation and treatment of patients to assist in managing the potential side effects of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation and limitations after surgery. Our specially trained therapists are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care close to home for the MetroWest Medical Center community. The Living Well Program can offer you treatment on land or in one of our therapeutic pools.

Regardless of where you are in your journey, our therapists will assess your individual needs, including the next steps in your recovery or treatment, and customize a therapy program appropriate for you. Everything will be done at a pace that’s best for you.

At MetroWest, your rehabilitation plan could include:

  • Lymphedema treatment
  • Balance retraining
  • Strengthening
  • Scar tissue management
  • Assessment for adaptive equipment
  • Swallowing and communication training
  • Endurance retraining (aerobic exercise)
  • Cognitive training
  • Training for activities of daily living
  • Energy conservation techniques
  • Management of cancer-related fatigue
  • Functional training (getting up from a chair, getting in or out of a car, climbing stairs)
