Your lymph nodes play a vital part in removing excess fluid from your body. But when they’re affected by injury, surgery, radiation or even a deformity at birth, you may experience lymphedema. Lymphedema causes an abnormal amount of swelling in
your body tissue, such as an arm or leg, that can’t be relieved through elevation.
At MetroWest Medical Center, we offer treatment for lymphedema through complete decongestive therapy (CDT). This treatment consists of:
Manual lymph drainage, a pain-free, comfortable, soothing massage technique that mobilizes the fluid
Skin care to prevent infections
During your therapy, we’ll also teach you ways to manage swelling from lymphedema even after your therapy is completed.
