Why Diabetes Education?

Education is the key to good health and disease management. The more you know about your disease, the better you can manage it and the higher your quality of life. At MetroWest Medical Center, we offer a comprehensive diabetes education program that includes individual instruction, classes and lectures designed to assist you in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our diabetes educators are concerned with your well-being and focused on helping you reach your goals. We offer resources for:

  • Diabetes management
  • Insulin administration
  • Gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy)
  • Medical nutrition therapy

All of our services are provided by a team of dedicated registered nurses and registered dieticians, as well as educators certified by the American Diabetes Association.

If your doctor has recommended you meet with a diabetes educator, it’s for a good reason: so you can learn to manage your diabetes and your health. When you gain a greater knowledge and understanding of your condition, you can make lifestyle changes that may significantly enhance your quality of life. Our diabetes educators will work with you to develop a program to fit your lifestyle and meet your unique needs.

Why do you need a specialist? Registered nurses and registered dietitians have the experience and the time to spend with you at each of your diabetes education appointments. They’ll work collaboratively with you and your doctor to assist in managing your individual needs. Our nurses and dietitians keep abreast of current standards of care and nutrition. Working together with your doctor, diabetes educators can provide you with the specialized care, counseling and monitoring you need to minimize complications and promote a healthy, active lifestyle.
